Just Writing About “Ceremonials” By Florence + The Machine…
I like music a lot and listen to it all day. So sporadically, over the next several days, I’m going to be writing about the twelve albums I’m listening to the most lately. They’re not in any certain order because I don’t think you can judge music that way. This is the just how I wrote them down. Actually, they’re probably in alphabetical order by artist name, since I simply parsed my Rhapsody library to find them.
And, for the record, I’m by no means under the delusion that I’m a music critic or expert. All I intend to do is communicate why I like them while trying not to judge them esthetically. The third album is “Ceremonials” by Florence + The Machine…

I was surprised by this one because I didn’t really like her first one. I liked “Dog Days Are Over” but the rest of it was just elevator music to me. “Ceremonials” is the exact opposite.

Every song is epic and important. “Shake It Out” even makes me want to move and get lost in it, and I almost never get that urge. The rhythms are somewhat tribal, which I find mind-numbing, but they really add to the atmosphere of these songs and give them a strong structure to hold the huge bursts of harmonious glory. Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but that’s how this album will make you feel if you let it. When most everyone else is playing coy with their lyrics and calling it subtle and pretending not to care or show their true feelings or values, every single song on this album really stands out. They don’t shy away from their own importance.
