Marta Dahlig (aka blackeri) is a digital painter using such software as Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter, but she employs a traditional approach to her work. Drawing inspiration from modern classicists, such as William Bouguereau, she’s a very popular artist at DeviantArt who paints beautiful women in fantastic colors and settings, and is mostly known for her “Seven Deadly Sins” series — but my favorite is “Judith.”
I’m posting about her here because I like her paintings and thought she would be undeniable evidence of the legitimacy of digital art. What would be the difference if she did her paintings on an actual canvas using real paint? Would her work be any less? Another reason I chose to link to some of her work is she has a great tutorial on how she painted “Judith” that shows her entire method. Anyone who thinks digital art is created simply by pushing a button — and there are still plenty of people who do — needs to update their faulty premises by reading this tutorial or watching the videos below. Creating digital art requires no less artistic skill than creating traditional art, and the artworks of Marta Dahlig prove it.
