Alan Greenspan and Self-interest

So Alan Greenspan blames capitalism for the current economic crisis, and since he had strong ties to Ayn Rand when he was younger, Objectivism (her philosophy) is being smeared by association. It’s absurd, of course. You can’t dick around with the free market as the federal reserve chairman and be a laissez-faire capitalist at the same time. But since the public in general and certainly most of the media evade the knowledge of what capitalism really is, it’s understandable (though not justifiable) that such an obvious contradiction would be ignored. Still, morality demands that Ayn Rand and Objectivism be defended against such an attack

Welfare is not the Solution to Poverty

You know, sometimes it’s the most basic stuff that we fail to understand. For instance, suppose I told you that there’s a poor family on my street and I just think that’s wrong, and given the wealth of every other family on the street there’s no reason why anyone has to be poor. So what I’m going to do is break into the wealthy homes and steal enough money so that I can give the poor family enough to be wealthy, too. Does that sound like a good idea?

At first, like most everyone else, I was appalled by all the celebrities who were getting involved with politics, but I took it light-heartedly, like most everyone else. However, now I’m getting sick of people (including celebrities) who are appalled by all the celebrities who get involved with politics.
